To Control Yellow Fever, Mosquito-eradication

In 1901 Mosquito-eradication was conducted by the U.S. Army Engineers, in the aftermath of the Spanish-American War. Yellow Fever ran ramped and ravaged the Troops. Once W. Reed confirmed that mosquitos were the corporate of Yellow Fever, W. G. Gorgas assembled a crew and began operations in February 1901. Eradication was due to removing habitats, such as draining swamps and stagnant waters.

Later W. G. Gorgas would be commissioned for the same efforts at Panama Canal, Panama, reducing deaths from 176 per 1000 to only 6 per 1000 workers.
