Canadian patent issues for Spreadsheet Program

LANPAR was the first spreadsheet program for manipulating matrices of numbers, created by Canadian programmers, RenÈ Pardo and Remy Landau, in 1969/1970 while working at LANPAR Ltd. Even though the two had received a patent on the software, due to irregularities in the patent application, they were unable to protect their software from competitors like Lotus Development Corporation who created Lotus 1-2-3.
