Digital Chart of the World

The Digital Chart of the World was started in 1992 and released in 2006 was a cooperative effort between cartography organizations in Canada, United States, Australia and Great Britain. I guess it takes the world to create a world map … Food for thought.

But the story of the concept of a world map began 111 years be for its release, back to 1881 when the International Geographic Union proposed a world map to be created at a scale of 1:1,000,000 and to be a cooperative between union members. It was shelved for 62 years until in 1953, the United Nations Economic and Social Council adopted a similar resolution, then shelved again. Finally in 1992 a world map was released…
