James A. Bonsack in 1881, patented in the USA, his Cigarette-rolling machine. Basically it would deposited shredded tobacco on a piece of paper, then shaped the paper into a long thin cylinder, and cut the cylinder into individual cigarettes. I guess these smokes were non filtered?
