Islamic Revivalist Reform Movement In Persia

Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, an Arabian theologian launched the Islamic revivalist reform movement in 1736. He advocated a return to the tenets of early Islam as expressed in the Qur’an and the Hadith condemning all innovations as polytheistic, veneration of saints, the decoration of mosques, and smoking tobacco. The al-Muwahhidun followers for their insistence to monotheism, yet puritanical gained political support from the Sa’ud family of Saudi Arabia.
