William Franklin Sends First Airmail Letter

William Franklin,sent the first airmail letter to his father, Benjamin Franklin on January 7, 1785 while stationed in Europe at the Continental Congress. The letter departed from Dover, England to Felmores Forest, France in a hot-air balloon flown by the French balloonist Jean-Pierre Francois Blanchard and an American physician, John Jeffries making it the first aerial sea voyage.
