Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology at Oxford University, in Oxford, England was the first public museum of art, archeology, and natural history. The museum was founded to house the collection of antiquarian Elias Ashmole, who donated his holdings to the university in 1677, designed by Thomas Wood and opened in 1683.
