B. F. Goodrich Created Vinyl Shower Curtains

B. F. Goodrich Rubber Company of Akron, OH, USA introduced vinyl shower curtains in 1938. The curtains were made of lightweight Japanese silk coated with Koroseal, or polyvinyl chloride that was developed by a Goodrich staff scientist, Dr. Waldo Semon. Koroseal was resistant to the effects of steam, soap, and hot water, and a few years the company produced shower curtains made from vinyl alone.
