Robodoc, the world’s first robotic device performed surgical procedures following its development by two Americans Howard “Hap” Paul, a veterinarian-surgeon, and William Bargar an orthopedic surgeon from Sacramento, CA, USA and manufactured by Integrated Surgical Systems for US$500,000. Robodoc was capable of cutting bone 40 times more precisely than human doctors. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the robots use in 1995 to perform 300 hip replacement procedures on humans.
