Dr. William Smellie

Physician, William Smellie taught obstetrics and midwifery in 1739 around Lanark, Scotland and lectured in London. Smellie encouraged students to be present observers while assisting at birthings, made leather-covered dummies for practice, and the first scientist to make exact measurements of the human pelvis.
