Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora

The treaty Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora on international trade in rare animals was adopted in 1973, by 80 nation representatives and ratified by their governments. It prohibited commercial trade in 375 endangered wild animal species, animal products such as hides, rare plants such as orchids, and set up a permitting trade system of 239 more rare animal species.
