Dr. Denton A. Cooley performed the first internet streamed open heart coronary bypass surgery on August 19, 1998 at a hospital in Houston, TX, USA. The operation on Rena took 3 hours 40 minutes, viewed by 150,000 people on AHN.com, a website operated by America’s Health Network, based in Orlando, FL, USA, and it was the first live surgery to be streamed on the Internet. America’s Health Network later streamed the birth of a child, on June 16, 1998; a hair transplant, on September 30, 1998; a knee operation, on November 11, 1998; surgery on a herniated disk, on December 3, 1998; brain surgery, on January 7, 1999; repair of an aneurysm, on February 18, 1999; and a knee replacement operation, on February 23, 1999.
