International Botanical Congress took place in 1867 in Paris, France was organized by Swiss botanist, Alphonse-Louis-Pierre-Pyrame de Candolle. Candolle was botany chair and director of the botanical gardens at the University of Geneva from 1842 to 1893. Congress developed a standardized botanical nomenclature and was held every four to six years.
