Pont Royal Bridge Built Using Open Caissons

Pont Royal bridge in Paris, France was built using open caissons in 1685. Jules Hardouin Mansart, engineer had the bridge piling foundations excavated within an open caisson, a watertight box, higher than the water level, lowered to the riverbed.
