The First Miss World Contest

The Miss World contest was held at the Lyceum Ballroom in London, England, on April 19, 1951. Publicity agent Eric Motley of Mecca, Ltd held the competition in conjunction with the Festival of Britain. Kiki Haakonson of Sweden was the first winner, and the first beauty contest in which the contestants appeared in bikinis.
