Mixing Human Genes with that of a Bull

In 1992 a small biotechnology company called Gen Pharm International in Mountain View, CA, USA, developed the first Transgenic bull. (Transgenic animals are genetically engineered to contain human genes) This Transgenic bull nicknamed Herman fathered the first transgenic calves in 1993, each of the female calves carried gene for making human lactoferrin in cows milk. Human lactoferrin, is naturally produced in human milk and has properties as antibacterial action and iron transport.

Now why scientist would do this, seem weird and may never make it to human consumption. In my opinion and only my opinion is that just because it can be done, does not mean it should, but the science could lead to other important discoveries…

  • 150 human animal hybrids grown in UK labs: Embryos have been produced secretively for the past three years
Scientists have created more than 150 human-animal hybrid embryos in British laboratories. The hybrids have been produced secretively over the past three years by researchers looking into possible cures for a wide range of diseases.
  • Herman the Bull –
Herman the Bull (Lelystad, The Netherlands 16 December 1990 – Leiden, The Netherlands 2 April 2004) was the first genetically modified or transgenic bovine in the world.[1][2] The announcement of Herman’s creation caused an ethical storm.
  • Transcript of HERMAN THE BULL
Herman was genetically engineered in a laboratory at an early embryo stage by Gen Pharm International. Herman was micro injected cells with the human gene coding for lactoferrin.
