El Paraiso (a site on the Peruvian Coast) was a cotton producing centre of the New World. The people of El Paraiso Circa 1800 BCE – 1500 BCE produced such items as nets, fishing lines and clothing from the wild cotton, then traded these products to neighbouring communities.
NOTE: The cultivation of domesticated cotton crop, had not been yet practiced at that time.
