On May 6th, 1979 at the International Human Powered Vehicle Associations’s, 200 meter Flying Start Speed Trials in Ontario Canada… Fred Markham, a solo rider using a Gardener Martin-designed recumbent bicycle called “Easy Rider” pedalled to a speed of 50.84 miles per hour (81.82km/h).
