Tethered Hot Air Balloon Flight

Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier ascended in a tethered hot air balloon constructed by the Montgolfier brothers in Paris, France on October 15, 1783. Pilatre de Rozier, François Laurent and Marquis d’Arlandes were on the first untethered flight over Paris on November 21, 1783 travelling 5.5 miles (8.8 kilometres) for a 25-minute course.
