Emperor Chandragupta Maurya of India

Emperor Chandragupta Maurya of India was raised a slave cow herder owned by a Brahmin politician who tutored him in military tactics. He rose to power as Emperor of Magadha in 325 BCE, ruler of Punjab following the death of Alexander the Great and withdrawal of the Greeks with his 600,000 man mercenary army in 322 BCE. He founded the Maurya dynasty by 321 BCE, the army conquered India while repelling an invasion by Seleucus I Nicator in 305 BCE, and finally becoming a Jain and fasted to death during the Indian famine of 297 BCE, as per Jain custom.
