Sikh Temple in Amritsar was Built

The Sikh Golden Temple was built in 1604 by Guru Arjun in Amritsar, India. The temple was built on an island in a tank of sacred water called the amrita-saras, destroyed and reconstructed several times. The official temple name is Harimandir, yet obtained its nickname from the gold foil covering the dome.
