Manicure set containing gold nail care instruments was found in a 4,000 year-old tomb at Tell el-Muqayyar, Iraq or ancient Mesopotamian city of Ur. Another set of personal care items consisting of four items: a pointed toothpick; a makeup applicator; an ear scoop; and a wand with holes bored in their handles, held together by a ring, were found in the ruins of Tepe Gawra (Mosul, Iraq) from the same era.
