Florist begin cultivation of Flowers

The first to be cultivated was the Tulip in 1554. as the story goes, Tulips were imported into Europe. A package of tulip seeds were sent to Vienna by Austrian Diplomate Ghislan de Busbecq, from Court of the Ottoman Turkish Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent. Busbecq was an Ambassador. In 1593 Carolus Clusius brought tulips with him when he emigrated to Holland, where they began to cultivate them at the Botanical Gardens at the University of Leiden. Clusius was an Austrian Botanist and was a director of Imperial Herb Gardens in Vienna.

Tulips at first were bred and used for medicinal prescriptions. The Dutch even stewed the tulip bulbs, like you would with onions.

The beauty of the Tulip gave rise to the Tulip craze, the art of breeding Tulips, perfecting new breeds, specialized combinations of size and colour had become a mass obsession by 1633. The Tulip market by 1637 crashed due to an inflated market based on speculations.
