Irish Horse Racing

5000 pastoral acres (Curragh Plain) in what is known as County Kildare, Ireland may have developed Irish Racing from Horse Races run as early as mid 1st Century. There is also written evidence that in the 3rd Century there were chariot races. In 1760 the Curragh Breeding Society was established. The Curragh Race Course and Training Grounds was the centre of Irish Breeding and Racing in the late 20th Century. This modern flat track hosts the Irish Derby annually, now called the Budweiser Irish Derby.
