The sport of Lacrosse is over 3000 years old

A Canadian by the name of George W. Beers codified the rules for modern day Lacrosse in 1867, but the history of the sport goes back as far as 1000 BCE. Native Americans of the Northeastern part of North America called it “Baggataway” or ” Tewraraathon”. The equipment not that much different than today, a curved stick with a net of animal hide, a ball made of animal hide, stuffed with animal hair. The sport varied from tribe to tribe as to the size of teams and the rules of the game. Some of the tribes even took the game to heart, by coaching and providing extensive training.
